Jeff Clark
Jeff grew up in the warehouse industry. His grandfather and father were both warehousemen. You could say that he learned this industry from the back of the truck to the front of the truck. He was able to put himself through college driving not a truck but a forklift. In 1988 due mostly to underemployment he went to truck driving school and earned his CDL. He worked as a company driver in the truckload and less than truckload segment until 2002. That is when he decided to buy his first truck. Doing a break even analysis convinced him that buying a truck would be more profitable for him than continuing to be a company driver. He was delivering paper products as an owner operator. This company would pay him the same that they paid lumper services. So, he began working out in order to make money lumping floor loads of paper products. This eventually led to running. As a high school runner he had run sub 5 minute miles. So he set the treadmill to 10 minute mile pace (6mph). Within 4 minutes he was slowing the treadmill to a walk. Within a year of starting running he finished his first 26.2 mile marathon. Finishing a marathon helped give him the confidence to start speaking up about industry. "Truckers News" named him their highway health hero of the year. He also appeared in "Road King", "Challenge", and "Landline" magazines within the industry. He has also been honored to appear in "Runners World" magazine and in the Green Bay Press Gazette, and the Chicago Tribune family of newspapers. He has also been a regular columnist for "Truckers Health" and "Truckers News" magazines. Currently he is still as Owner Operator. His truck is leased on with Paper Transport out of Green Bay, WI. He is also proud to be a "pro" at the Team Run Smart website. He will be posting blogs every 5 days. Many of his columns will be on health issues. He will also writing on his experience as an owner operator. He hopes to always be part of the Trucking Solutions Group and the good work that they do. He is also a proud member of OOIDA.
